Current Projects:
nubian sisters productions is currently in post production on
our first feature-length documentary, entitled, "Cubensi
Kaury Proyecto," aka Mujeres de Hip-Hop Cubana. This digital
video project was shot over the course of two years (2002-2004)
in and around Havana, Cuba.
This independent
project will showcase the lives of female hip-hop artists. These
artists are spewing relevant lyrics with Afro-centric, feminist
and socially conscious themes. As artists they're aware of their
position in the global struggle of the downtrodden. The hip-hop
movement is relatively young in Cuba, but as a whole the artists
relish their underground status and herald artists from the
U.S. with similar followings. This project has support from
NewTown Arts non-profit; the coalition of US and Cuban Women;
Cuba Travel; the Puffin Foundation; the Miamilight Foundation
and Dada International Footwear.
